5th Annual Lion-Tamer DIVE Tournament & Family FUN Day

Divers bring in the lionfish and we vote for a favorite chef! Tournament culminates in a Festival including kids activities, Dockside Fishing, Kids Art contest, Lionfish awareness exhibits, Fish & Dive History, Beach Art Paint Party and more!

May 14-15, 2016 at Capt. Anderson’s Marina

Grab the kids and head on over to Capt. Anderson’s Marina on Sunday, May 15th, to watch the culmination of the exciting Lion-Tamer Dive Tournament and to participate in a whole afternoon of Family Fun on the waterfront!  Starting at 1pm, the NE side of the Grand Lagoon Bridge will be home base for many FUN activities including a Kids Fishing Clinic, a Bounce House w/ Cool-Off Zone, a Cupcake Walk, and other fun games.

It’s all good fun for the kiddos, but there will also be some interesting exhibits and demonstrations for the rest of the family.  Stroll around and discover the historical significance of diving and fishing in our local waters.  Grab some fresh steamed shrimp from the market, and browse through the “Lionfish Fish Art” on display from the Patronis Art Class. You can also create your very own artwork from 2-4pm at the Lionfish Beach Art Paint Party.  Choose your design, a dive helmet or a lionfish, and take home your personalized picture that day!

The whole focus of course is on the lionfish, so there will be extensive Lionfish Awareness Exhibits. The lionfish are a predatory reef fish, surviving on native species, reducing and sometimes eliminating the native population.  You will learn about them and the devastating impact they are having on our fisheries, and be able to watch safe handling and cleaning demonstrations throughout the day.

The highlight of the afternoon will be our Chef Challenge! We will all have the opportunity to taste the delicious lionfish prepared by Chef Konrad Jochum of Schooners, Chef Chris Infinger of G. Foley’s and Chef Ronnie Barwick of Capt. Anderson’s Restaurant. The challenge will begin at 3pm, and all participating taste buds are welcome to cast a vote for your favorite dish before a winner is announced at 5:30.

While we are having all this fun dockside, there will be teams of dedicated divers out in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and St. Andrews Bay collecting lionfish throughout Saturday 5/14 and Sunday 5/15 for the 5th Annual Lion-Tamer Dive Tournament.  You won’t want to miss watching the Amberjack, Snapper and Triggerfish weigh-ins starting at 4pm on Sunday!
