A toe-tapping, foot stomping Dixieland Band led by ragtime and stride Pianist Bobby van Duesen will appear at The Place on Tuesday, Nov. 28thÂ beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The band will feature, along with van Duesen, Steve Gilmore on bass and visiting Pensacola artists Joe Occiphinti on reeds, and Roger Villines on trumpet.
The performance, a monthly event of the Gulf Jazz Society, marks a return visit to The Place for Bobby van Duesen who hasthrilled audiences at The Place and more recently at the Jazz By The Festival last October.
A Philadelphia native but now a Pensacola resident, van Deusens resume includes performances in New Orleans with PeteFountain, Al Hirt, and The DukesÂ ofÂ Dixieland. He has been the featured pianist with the nationally acclaimed Barbary Coast Dixieland Jazz Band.
Occhipinti has been a full-time musical performer in Pensacola since 1967 and leads a big band and a jazz ensemble. He is founder of the Jazz Society of Pensacola and the Pensacola Jazz Festival
Bassist Steve Gilmore, a three-time Grammy Award winner, is regarded as one of the top jazz bassists in the world.Trumpeter
Roger Villines , serves as president of the Jazz Society of Pensacola and as adjunct music professor at Pensacola State College (PSC), and Director of the college Jazz Ensemble. As JSOP president he heads the jazz programming for the annual Pensacola Jazz festival and JSOP monthly jazz events.
