Emmaline and the West of Staley
Jan 09 2018
A young soulful jazz quartet called “Emmaline and the West of Staley” will provide the music for the Gulf jazz Society’s monthly event on Tuesday, Jan. 9th at The Place in downtown Panama city at 6:30 p.m.
Based in Cincinnati, the four piece Alternative R and B band was by founded by lead vocalist, violinist and songwriter
Emmaline Campbell and guitarist Ryan Mondak. The group also includes jazz bassist Chris Mondak and drummer David Counter.
Critics have praised Emmaline’s ethereal vocals and lyrics combined with elements of vintage jazz harmonies and modern neo-soul grooves to create a soulful vibe that is “unlike any other sound being created in the 21st century.”
19-year-old Emmaline is currently a jazz studies major at the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music and is the lead singer and primary songwriter in her band “Emmaline.
Not only has Emmaline been heavily influenced by many different voices of soul and R&B, but she also grew up with an ear full of jazz and big band music, thanks to the influence of her father, jazz pianist and arranger, Russ Campbell.
