Keeping History Alive! Another 140 Years!

 

SEPTEMBER 25 PROGRAM

The Historical Society of Bay Co. will host a program “Keeping History Alive! Another 140 Years!” by Kay Cherry, President of the Friends of the Governor Stone, Inc. on Mon. Sept 25 at the Bay County Library, 7 p.m. The Governor Stone, a National Historic Landmark, is the last known working shallow draft Gulf Coast schooner. Over the last 140 years she has been a freighter, oyster buy boat, rum runner, training vessel for the US Navy Merchant Marine Cadets, resort day sailer, private yacht, sponge boat and has retired to becoming a sailing museum. She will celebrate her 140th birthday on Oct. 18, 2017 with a community celebration to be held on Oct. 22.
