Madama Butterfly

Presented by Panama City Music Association at Marina Civic Center, Panama City FL

Feb 11 2018
Madama Butterfly
Giacomo Puccini’s timeless opera Madama Butterfly will be fill the Marina Civic Center stage in a full-scale production with an international cast on Sun. February 11 at 4:00 p.m.  matinee.

The title character of Madama Butterfly is one of the defining roles in opera. Cio-Cio-san, a young geisha, clings to the belief that her marriage to an American naval officer is a loving and permanent one.

The story, accessible and engaging, based on a literary work, sparks ideas about cultural and racial bias. Madame Butterflyfeatures hefty doses of themes that are still relevant today: cultural insensitivity, the exploitation of marginalized members of society, and the idealization of women.

The lyric beauty of Puccini’s score, especially the music for the thoroughly believable lead role, has made Butterfly timeless
