Patronis Elementary 5th Grade \"Lionfish Art\" Contest

What better way to learn about the lionfish, a non-native predatory fish that is trying to take over our local fishing reefs, than in art class!

The 5th graders at Patronis Elementary have been busy working on perfecting their lionfish artwork and we invite everybody to come down to the docks of Capt. Anderson's Marina and view the waterfront exhibition during the 5th Annual Lion-Tamer DIVE Tournament & Family FUN Day on Sunday, May 15th.

Starting at 1:00 pm the NE side of the Grand Lagoon Bridge will be the home base for great activities and exhibits revolving around the Lionfish.  Included in with the kids events will be a Fishing Clinic, Bounce House with Cool-Off Zone, a Seafari Cupcake Walk, and other fun games.

With the focus on liofish, you will not only learn not to get near them if seen in the local waters, but learn all about the devastating impact they are having on our fisheries and watch how to safely handle and clean them.

Come with your taste buds because there will be plenty to eat; steamed shrimp at the fish market, delicious food from the vendors and the highlight for all foodies will be the Lionfish Chef Challange!  Three local chefs will be preparing and handing out samples of the freshy prepared lionfish and your votes will determine this year's champ!

The Patronis Elementary Lionfish Artwork will be displayed during the entire event, which runs from 1:00 til 6:00 pm, and the local "familiar faces" of Neysa Wilkens (co-anchor at WJHG), Bill Husfelt (Bay County School Superintendant), and Capt. Fearless Phil (Sea Dragon Pirate Ship) amongst others will be on hand to judge and announce the three contest winners at 3:30 pm.

See you down at the docks!!
