Our mission is to foster Arts & CUltural experiences at Railroad Square Art District for Tallahassee’s residents and visitors alike. our initiatives FIRST FRIDAYS For the past 20 years, Railroad Square has best been known for the exciting and popular First Friday festival. This festival offers a lively, enjoyable experience with open galleries/shops, live music, and food. Railroad Square’s First Fridays have been recognized nationally by Forbes and Huffington Post and is Tallahassee’s most popular, longest-running monthly cultural event! As of Sept 2020, this staple Tallahassee event is being organized and hosted by ACERS (virtually for now). Tune in — and watch past productions — on Facebook or YouTube . ART GARDEN EVENTS The Art Garden is Railroad Square’s event venue, with overflow capacity up to 3,000 people. This recently built amenity is the “town square” of the art district. The surrounding shops, greenspace, colorful murals, and central location make it a fantastic community gathering space. Using this venue, ACERS will host events highlighting a variety of artistic mediums and cultural/community interests. The Art Garden will be available for other approved community uses as well. ARTS INCUBATOR Artists need both inspirational studio space to create and also well-trafficked gallery space to display their work to the public. Most artists can’t afford to have both. ACERS hopes to work with Railroad Square to repurpose the Breezeway Marketplace (right next to the new Hyatt Hotel) into an affordable space for artists to both create and sell their work, an incubator or co-working facility for artists much like the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, VA or Oolite Arts in Miami, FL

We are now online! Making Light Productions, a Tallahassee, Florida, based nonprofit corporation has two primary goals: high quality inclusive theatre arts education for children, teens, and adults of all abilities; and jobs and community for adults with disabilities. MLP offers both private and group classes in voice, piano, guitar, percussion violin, acting, art, and musical theatre to all ages. Our facility at 2070 Blair Stone Rd. allows us to have several theatre companies so we can accommodate all experience levels and stage several productions per year. Making Light Productions centers around an inclusive theatre arts program for kids of all abilities: music, art, dance and theatre. Inclusive means that kids of all abilities learn together. A 2005 Vanderbilt University Study concludes that theatre programs help kids with autism learn to recognize faces, play in groups and communicate with others. And “typical” kids never have to be taught that kids with special needs make great friends and have remarkable contributions to bring to a group. They’ve experienced that for themselves. Many arts programs require a level of independent functioning that might not be possible for all kids with disabilities if a parent or therapist needs to attend a music lesson, theatre rehearsal or dance class with them. Making Light Productions’ open door policy encourages parent and therapist involvement with our FDLE-screened staff. Including everyone does not mean you have to sacrifice the quality of the arts education. In fact, in 2016 and 2017, Making Light Managing Director Mandi Broadfoot led an inclusive musical theatre team to national gold and high gold medals at the Access Broadway competitions in New York City and Orlando. Team members with autism received some of highest scores for vocal performance.

The Sharing Tree was established in 2009 by Tallahassee artist and entrepreneur Carly Sinnadurai as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. The original mission of The Sharing Tree was to collect and redistribute reusable materials to educators, artists and the broader learning community, while simultaneously educating the community in the art of creative reuse. Over the years, The Sharing Tree provided thousands of teachers, students, artists, businesses and families with affordable crafting and art materials, donated over a million dollars in classroom materials annually to local educators and non profits, and diverted over eight hundred tons of reusable materials from our local landfill. In recent years, The Sharing Tree has evolved and grown to include an increasing amount of educational opportunities for children and adults that focus on nurturing creative confidence, while reinforcing healthy values and practices that best sustain people and our planet. Our passion for education has motivated us to reevaluate our mission.
