A Place Where Jazz Meets the Soul.
Come in. Pour yourself a cup of coffee. Grab a bite of goodness. Find a place at the table. There is food for the body and the soul in this place.
By its nature, jazz is an open art form, always growing and exploring new edges to music making. By its nature the church, too, is always listening anew to the voice of God and holding all people in a safe and creative environment in order to explore what it means to be people of God.
The service is structured and yet informal and open to exploring these new growing edges in each of us. Jazz is improvisation and improvisation captures an always-growing faith. As the group moves through ancient rhythms of prayer, preaching, and song, people respond at will as they get up when moved to light a candle, meditate, or say a prayer at one of the “Presence” areas in the worship space.
Jazz is inclusive in having many entry points. Anyone can participate in making jazz. Even the most casual observer makes music when tapping or clapping spontaneously along with the beat. You are invited to call out your prayers during prayer time, to talk back during the sermon, to share a story of encounter with the Lord. The old stories are made new through our experience and creation of worship together. The music is a combination of jazzed-up church music and straight jazz reinterpreted by a worship context.
Sounds like a note that resonates with you? Then come. Let the worship team and the Holy Spirit be your guides as you seek to freshen a long-held faith or go deeper with a new one.
Find your place at the Table.
Jazz for the Soul is presented every 2nd Wed. of the month at 7 p.m.
Led by Rev. Bonnie Wilkins and Ms. Amanda Matthews, Jazz Pianist and guest musicians.
